Lá Féile Pádraig Shona Daoibh

Happy St. Patrick's Day to one and all. It's a beautiful sunny day here in Dubiln. I was in town this morning before the parade started soaking up the sunshine and the atmosphere. There was this guy with the biggest dog I've ever seen, some kind of Irish Wolfhound or something. This hound was more like a horse. And it had this shamrock neck-scarf on which looked very cool. His owner was this eccentric dude wearing a dickie bow. Both man and dog looked interesting so I went over for a chat. There were lot of people around asking about the dog. It really was enormous. Now I'm really annoyed I didn't take a photo.

I took a few other photos this morning though. Unfortunately I didn't get any of the parade as it hadn't started yet.

So, I give you Dublin on St. Patrick's morning! click to enlarge...

It was a great day for it anyway. Is that the first non-rainy St Patrick's Day in living memory??

First one in years anyway. It was a day for first it seems, I didn't have a single drink!

Sounds like a good time was had by all - shame I was too jiggered from the night before to enjoy the actual day. Dear oh dear!

I'm on the dry so was at home all day. Dear oh dear!

Looks lovely...how I would love to live in a place without snow in March!

Was thinking of you today when I read about a British MP being denied entry into Canada based on his pro-Palestine views.

Yeah the weather is lovely these days. Long may it last.

I just read about George Galloway. I think it's appalling. He's a bit of an attention junkie but on the Palestinian issue he's correct, and he's certainly not a 'security threat' which I think is the nonsense excuse that was given for blocking him.

Looks like it was a good celebration. Here (england), it went by just like any other day! i was wondering how did Guinness become associated with st paddy's day? since its supposed to be a holy celebration, etc.
Also im intrigued by your interest in middle east's issues, how did it come about? if you dont mind me asking.
:)

Yes it is supposed to be a holy day but these times it's more of a festival with various events on for the entire week. Of course religious people will go to mass on St. Patrick's Day but for eveyone else it's just a day off work to have some fun, and for some Irish people overseas it's a celebration of their Irish identity.

Guinness isn't particularly associated with St. Patrick's Day, but alcohol is. Usually people go to the pub and get drunk to celebrate the day.

Re. my interest in the Middle East

Of course I don't mind you asking!

Years ago when I was travelling in Asia some conversations I had with a few different people from the ME made me want to learn more about the Palestinian-Israeli situation. Then I suppose that led to a curiousity about the wider region.

entire week, thats awesome! lol!
i see, its just another excuse to drink, eh?

fair enough. must've been some interesting discussions.

Yeah! St. Patrick's Day turned into the St. Patrick's Festival in recent years with stuff going on all week. And yes, it's basically an excuse to have a few drinks!

Yeah they were interesting discussions but that was just what sparked off the interest. To be honest it's hard to say why exactly I'm interested in the region but I do find it absolutely facinating.
