Today I agreed with Bertie

This from the Irish Times (subscription required):

In the first ever address by a Taoiseach to a joint sitting of the British houses of parliament, Mr Ahern said the Belfast Agreement had delivered peace and promise to Ireland by accommodating the rights, the interests and the legitimate aspirations of all.

He said:

"As an Irish republican, it is my passionate hope that we will see the island of Ireland united in peace. But I will continue to oppose with equal determination any effort to impose unity through violence or the threat of violence"

I agree with Bertie Ahern. Now I'm off to take a strong sedative and have a lie down...

I'm ok now, thanks guys!

Obs,

Blair is a warmonger, we know this, so it's a bit galling seeing him described as a peace maker just as he's about to step down. Still, he has given a lot of political energy to Ireland so credit where it's due I suppose...

dunno bout domestic politics in Eire, I'll take your word on that jg,
you've a first class mind
but from here Bertie can do no wrong: the way he's encouraged love between orange and green is awesome, ie courting paisley, boyne stuff, and lets not forget the gift last october on paisley's 50th weddin anniversary.
History will record that was paisleys turning point, and history will record Bertie had a huge hand init..
now I may be naive, and nutted off mostly, but thats how it looks from east sussex ;-)
