Day one

Day one of the new Assembly in the North and no handshake between Ian Paisley and Martin McGuinness. I find this a bit disappointing, a handshake can symbolise partnership and unity of purpose, it needn't necessarily mean friendship. It would have been a small yet important gesture for Paisley to make. Still, we live in hope that they can all work well together in the Assembly, Executive and in all the North-South bodies. At last things seem to be moving again in the peace process, let's hope that the next few years will see stability and progress both in the institutions and in society generally.

So, about the distribution of your SSIA.....

9:32 PM

Pars has scrapped his site, Julius.

11:34 PM

not in a good way obs :(
I can't properly explain my behaviour yesterday, but someone had to get it.
Its fuckt up
I'm sorry, but its too late

parsehole

12:04 AM

Fuck me Parc be cool.

We did get it, we were trying to calm you down. Jo was giving and taking, you were dragging up old stuff that everyone would rather be left in the past.

Your erratic behaviour had everyone wondering what was going on. Just take it easy, I promise it isn't as bad as you reckon.

10:00 AM

...about the distribution of your SSIA

I've already started distributing it. 100 Euro for a new phone, 50 for a new pair of jeans, 100 on a night out! A laptop is next, distribution can be fun.

Pars,

Just be cool, man. As Tony said, it's not that bad.

12:25 PM

it isn't that bad, and you did get it, and i want to stay cos I believe in you guys,

now I can't see ATW but this on Balrog from MR
"I know that David won't have seen what has been going on here, and I don't want to see relations between ATW and Balrog soured over this in the way we had the warfare between Jo and UI.

this is crap, David sees all. and if you recall it was MR's comment on jo that lead to all of this..
HE Smeared her, which was my rage, now he's ducking and diving, playing the innocent.

so pls can one of you go on to Balrog and set it straight.

Pars

Step back a bit from this.
Let the dust settle, email Chris - he is one of the good guys.
You let people rile you too much and when you lose it, they win.
You gotta be smarter than that.
It seems to me that Jo is trying to rehabilitate herself and doing OK.
Who benefits from restarting this?
Not her and certainly not you.
Take it slowly, you'll get them in the long grass.

In Dublin?

9:54 PM

yeah you're right obs, I've been outplayed, licking ma wounds right noo ;)

MR plays a cunning hand, he keeps "just in" with you guys, and reserves his most poisonous darts for jo and I.
( personal attacks, lies, smears, all deliberate of course )

I suppose I should be proud really, somewhere deep down he's scared.

well as arnie says
" I'll be back "

hang on in there, and fight the good fight :-)

That's it Obs, expensive indeed but a nice pair of jeans!

11:04 AM

To add another irrelevant comment: OMG, you changed the background color? ;)

2:38 PM

What do you think?;)

I thought the place could do with a coat of paint but this colour is a bit girly! I might change it, suggestions?

2:46 PM

A bit girly indeed!

I can't really suggest anything, I spent hours playing with the colours on my own blog and was dissatisfied most of the time.

I mean, just don't paint it pink! ;)

2:52 PM

LOL...

I always heed a girl's advice about clothes, they know best. I think it's the same with this. I'll change it right now!!

2:56 PM

Talking about a girl's advice...
This one feels like you just shaved off a 3-day beard. ;)

3:04 PM

...but you like 3-day beards! :)

3:11 PM

I didn't realize I was so over-emphasizing it?

3:14 PM

lol
You picked the wrong comparison. I have an excellent memory!

3:18 PM

>>I thought the place could do with a coat of paint but this colour is a bit girly! I might change it, suggestions? <<

I think the present colour (grey) rather suits your personality Julias.

*runs away*

3:29 PM

It actually IS what I was trying to say. Like, honestly. Which is why it's a shade darker now? ;)

3:29 PM

~tony: THAT was MEAN. lol

3:32 PM

Tony,
Check the 'Comings and Goings' thread on ATW. David's hypocrisy knows no bounds, and he calls me a gross hypocrite? LOL!

I think the present colour (grey) rather suits your personality

*runs after Tony* :)

Len, I'll take your word for it!

3:36 PM

Julias

Imagine being called grey and boring all in the one day. LOL *reality dawns*

Shit! I just realised the company I'm keeping!

*washes mouth out with soap'n'water.*

I have noticed previously that Chris has little private settlements, beats me why. Don't understand why he helped stick up for that arse Mahons though. The guy who had a go wasn't far wrong, he is from Irish stock yet sucks up to Waco. Even when pointing out the obvious re-McCann he still manages to almost kow-tow to his master. The wanker!

I tell you what though, I think Waco is ready to fall out with you. My advice would be to keep the powder dry, don't get angry and get in those telling kidney punches from time to time. You know be a serious nuisance to the campaign of mis-information.

7:35 PM

"You know be a serious nuisance to the campaign of mis-information."

You've already got the "Campaign for Aesthetically Pleasing Blogsites" on the run.

*runs in opposite direction to Juius and Tony*;)

8:46 PM

I have noticed previously that Chris has little private settlements, beats me why

What do you mean?

9:05 PM

Ahem I don't mean to intrude Geezer but...I don't like this background colour either :D

9:16 PM

~dandoon: what? it's the same than your elephant! ;)

10:11 PM

>>I have noticed previously that Chris has little private settlements, beats me why<<

One time, a while ago you had an argument with the mad-man over yonder. If I remember you had him on something or other, he asked you to contact him privately by e-mail. I think it was Cunningham who questioned what was going on. That's the jist of it anyway, if you remember better I don't know.

This distasteful shite now, where Waco seems to be using his Dad's death to smear us all (you by name) upon which you question his reasoning especially with the evidence of McCann's actions. Lo and behold the mad-man comes to the rescue suggests a private confab. Waco asks you to drop a line and you comply. Julias cry's foul and is told by Waco to go away he is boring.

It beats me as to why have a private confab when the smearing was done in public. It is none of my business really, but you did ask why I said it.

11:00 PM

tony had this idea that DV = saul of tarsus, who mercilessly persecuted christians, find it ironic that good people are forever slaughtered over at ATW, they seem to love Blood?
wondering when DV will have his " road to damascus experiennce" and become paul.
at any time christ could visit him and say " why dost thou persecute me"?
regards to all ;)

parcy

11:36 PM

Chris,

I have to agree with Tony. I was also wondering why you let him away with a private chat. What Andrew said about a man who had just died was inexcusable. David refuses to comment on Andrew's remarks which is telling. Personally I think MR was way off in what he suggested. If David has something to say about Andrew's bile it should be good enough for all of us to hear. Just my opinion though.

Tony,

Imagine being called grey and boring all in the one day

LOL, I know. I have a thick skin though!

Dandoon,

Suggestions? Be part of the solution! ;)

11:33 AM

Well done on Mr Paisley for attending the site of the biggest papal victory in Irish history.

How times have changed.

JG at the wind up on slugger ;)

And why have you removed your comment on Sean's blog. Has Waco the bogeyman finally got to you? Tch, tch!

4:35 PM

I thought only I could remove comments off my blog, but I noticed it was gone

Pimpernel

6:38 PM

Boys like the colour blue right? Or is it that they just choose whichever manly colour is the manliest perhaps. Anyways I suggest a blue background with white text.

7:09 PM

Tony,

What??? I didn't post that on Slugger! Seriously, it must be somebody else using my name.

Sean,

I didn't remove any comments from your blog. I posted a couple and they didn't appear... not sure what's going on.

Dandoon,

It was blue before and I felt like a change. I'm getting quite used to this colour now though...;)

11:53 AM

Tony,
The email address on JG's post - jg.dingleu@ulster.ac.uk

Not me!

Has Waco the bogeyman finally got to you?

NEVER NEVER NEVER! LOL.

11:58 AM

Sorry pal I never checked the e-mail address on slugger. I just assumed that there is only one JG. Your comments on Sean's have definitely gone though check for yoursel.

Hope you take my advice about playing cool with Waco. I noticed Dawkins over there got a telling off. He has been making me laugh for ages. Seems he was telling them how it was too often.

1:36 PM

I will play it cool. Going to take a break from it for a while though!

I don't know how normal, decent people like Dawkins and Noel Cunningham put up with it. They must have the patience of saints!

1:42 PM

When I used to post there it was sort of like a soap opera, in a way I suppose it still is. They say wimmen are the gossipers but just look at us go. We gossip about different things though, sometimes it's turns into bickering. Often I was outraged at not only the comments there but the actual posts themselves. Never, ever had I came across anyone questioning the dead on bloody sunday or attempting to whitewash the sectarian state. I had came across the usual hate-filled knuckle-dragger's spewing hate before, but here we had articulate intelligent people questioning the famine etc...

I have witnessed Cunningham being sickened on more than one occasion, keeps coming back for more though. Dawkins is interesting, I've flagged him up before. He claims to be a Unionist and was taking the piss out of them many times without them noticing it. Just recently he has been coming out and calling a spade a spade. This has earned him the wrath of Waco, watch this space. Will he shit it, or carry-on regardless?

See it's like a soap opera! :)

In retrospect I'm glad I was banned, now I don't post there on principle. My blood pressure couldn't stand it. ;)

BTW. Have you noticed Chris's site is having problem's with the posting?

6:22 PM

Totally agee with you Tony....

They say wimmen are the gossipers but just look at us go

LOL, very true.

There's a guy called Ciaran over there, from Derry I think. He lets David have it in no uncertain terms although I'm sure his days are numbered!

Never, ever had I came across anyone questioning the dead on bloody sunday

It's a sickness. I feel sorry for them. Basic human decency is notable by its absence.

re Balrog, there's a problem with Haloscan, it's the same on all the sites that use it, UI etc.

6:41 PM

Julias.

Just been over to that sick place. I've been proved right, don't know if you remember me speculating that he would have banned the Daytripper. Well he had! for the crime of making him look silly I suppose, here's the evidence.

http://atangledweb.squarespace.com/httpatangledwebsquarespace/freedom-say-it-loud-and-theres-music-playing.html#comments

ps. I noticed you commented on that sicko's post re-the Roma children, and I agree with you about Ciaran who comes across as incredulous.

7:20 PM

Just seen Irish entry on Eurovision. Started off cringe worthy, but got slightly better. The Brits as ever are hopeless, and they blamed the Iraq war the last time, triple LOL.

That West Brit bastard Wogan makes me squirm!

7:25 PM

Don't get me started on Wogan!!

2:56 AM

Looks like I picked the bottom two. Wogan was strangely happy that at least Britain wasn't last. In case anyone doesn't get it Ireland was last and Wogan (go on Julias) is some kind of by gone caricature of the whimsical Irishman. A prick of the highest order, however I rank my order by dans (like in Taikwando) and he is a mere second dan.

8:53 AM

I didn't see any of it, Tony. I'm glad I went out instead! One thing in Wogan's favour; he ususally takes the piss out of the acts which can make things a little more entertaining.

10:54 AM

Tony/JG
It's a sickness. I feel sorry for them. Basic human decency is notable by its absence.

Why do you keep reading it then?
No... really?

You come across online Tony as a sanctimonious prick, every bit as bigotted as most of the (how did you describe them) "orangys" I know. Only my opinion and I know you probbaly don't give afuck about what an "orangy" thinks, but bear with me here...

Probably in the real world you're decent enough bloke, but on Balrog, United Irelander and on here I can't really be bothered reading the kind of shite you and the various keyboard provos come out with regular intervals.

So, easy solution, I don't read them

If ATW really pisses you off, easy solution don't read it.

Now, please all feel free to release a bit of "non-sectarian" aggression and slag me off as an "orangy" or a "bulged eye unionist", I know you want to.

Slan or whatever.

5:33 PM

Hi Paul,

I am not sectarian. I have never written a sectarian word on any of the sites you mention or anywhere at all. Just thought I'd clear that up to begin with!

Why would I want to release aggression or slag you off? I have no quarrel with you. Any problems I have with unionism/unionists (and the history of same) I'll express in a forthright yet respectful manner. I've never done otherwise although a bit of slagging re the NI football team is a must from time to time! :)

Why do you keep reading it then?
No... really?

I like a robust debate with people I disagree with, although I read ATW less and less now because the ever-present threat of censorship stifles the debate there.

Several republican commenters here and elsewhere have expressed a desire to engage with unionists in a calm and honest way, in a forum in which one would not be censored for expressing the 'wrong' opinion. If that was to happen on this site I'd be more than happy to facilitate it.

You're welcome to comment here whenever you like and I'd be keen to get your views.

Best,

JG.

6:24 PM

JG
Reading a couple of the comments posted on one of your earlier post pushed me slightly OTT in my original comment, calmed down a bit now.

I am not sectarian. I have never written a sectarian word on any of the sites you mention or anywhere at all.

I wasn't accusing you JG, that comment was aimed at Tony. On the previous post I commented on here, both Observer and Tony engaged in sectarian stereotyping (probably thought they'd be no unionists reading;))

Why would I want to release aggression or slag you off? I have no quarrel with you. Any problems I have with unionism/unionists (and the history of same) I'll express in a forthright yet respectful manner

It seems to be the main function of blogs in our neck of the woods...to be either echo chambers or places where people take advantage of loose commenting policy to continue the cold war(slugger prime example)-the latter are used a kind of group therapy generally, but not exclusively, for republicans to let rip into unionists. Regarding the desire for rational, "calm and honest" debating, I'm sorry, I don't see much evidence of it. Again, not a comment aimed specifically at you.

Re:censorship, yep I'm against it and have never, as far as I remember removed any comments on any blog, I've been involved with. On the other hand, having seen the sectarian swamp that Slugger's comment zone as become, I can see the need for moderation on the bigger sites. But the point is that ATW,Slugger or your own site are not under public ownership, they can deliver whatever commenting policy they want- and if you don't like this policy or the posts there, why go to that particular site?

You're welcome to comment here whenever you like and I'd be keen to get your views

I have had a couple of debates with you before elsewhere...but I'm pretty disillusioned with how blogging as turned out in NI, the potential of what could have been achieved as been lost as a result of a few dickheads...so,I've moved into semi-permament retirement now;)

Cheers anyhow.

7:23 PM

I'm sorry, I don't see much evidence of it. Again, not a comment aimed specifically at you

Sure... There's not much evidence of it but I think there is a genuine desire for it and that's the point I was making. It must be possible!

I can see the need for moderation on the bigger sites

I agree. The issue is one of fairness though. David Vance has called me a "gross hypocrite", "pathetic" "an imbecile", "boring" (lol) etc... but if I said anything of the sort to him I'd get banned from his site. We're talking about a grown man here!

I take your point that if I don't like it I know where the door is, and that's why I visit much less now.

I have had a couple of debates with you before elsewhere

I think it was on Everything Ulster.

I'm of the opinion that blogging doesn't make much difference to anything! We wax lyrical about this and that but people are generally quite fixed in their positions and don't really 'listen' to each other.

At the same time you get to converse with people from the 'other side', people you wouldn't meet in your everyday life and I think it can lead to better understanding on some level.

I'm on optimist!

7:43 PM

Paul.

Give me peace! I use the slang word for orange sectarian bigots (orangy's) and you are able to label me like them. I would seriously challenge you to find anything that I have said bigoted. Also if you are lurking about the site's you mention, then you must have came across a whole plethora of what did you call me a 'sanctimonious prick'

Strange that you would think I rank above them, but then again each to their own. Paul I agree with much of what you say re-slugger, however your analysis :) to put it politely of me way off if you think I am a bigot.

9:51 PM

"On the previous post I commented on here, both Observer and Tony engaged in sectarian stereotyping"

If you equate a description of unionist tactical posturing with sectarianism, shouldn't you examine your own perceptions of the relationship between politics and religion?

"(probably thought they'd be no unionists reading;))"

On the contrary, Paul.
I was rather hoping there would be;)

12:40 AM

Tony/Observer
The reply's at the end of the "tonic post"

5:16 AM

Ditto.

7:02 AM

Paul

I was joking when I said wtf is irony. You really didn't have to point out what you believed to be my inconsistency. If that is the sum total of your evidence for the over the top attack on me, then what does that say about you?

I back up Julias and Obs in hoping you will take an opportunity to fine-tune your education. ;)
